You may request remote access by visiting the Remote Access Self Service Portal ( only available while on VA's internal network). Please note the Self-Service Portal is only accessible from within the VA network, it is not externally accessible.

Download the Client

Download the 64-bit Windows Desktop client (MSRDC) application installer (this is intended Windows 10).

When the Remote Desktop Setup welcome screen opens, click Next to continue.

Subsequent Connections

Open the “Remote Desktop” application and select the VA Host pool icon you want to reconnect to. ( The MAIN VA AVD icon should appear for all users)

A remote access account with either Athens or LibLynx allows you to access library resources with a single username and password while at home or on travel without VPN. We are transitioning from Athens to LibLynx, so Athens will eventually go away.

Is OneDrive available to 1VA-General Desktop users?

Yes, OneDrive is available to users of 1VA-General Desktop. However, OneDrive is NOT available from File Explorer as it is on normal physical desktops but can be accessed via the web. Users can open files using the URL https://dvagov-my.sharepoint.com/ ( only available while on VA's internal network).

Are users of the 1VA-General Desktop able to connect to physical machines in their offices?

Yes, users of the 1VA-General Desktop may connect to physical machines in their offices. However, they should NOT use remote desktop protocol (RDP) to connect to physical machines in the office.

Can users of the 1VA-General Desktop share their computer audio and camera over Skype?

No. Users of the 1VA-General Desktop cannot share their computer audio and camera over Skype. Users will need to dial in to Skype meetings or have the meeting dial out to them.
