Zoom

Need to host or attend a meeting from off-campus? Zoom is a cloud-based web conferencing service that allows users to meet and share content online. Start or join a meeting from anywhere with an internet connection.

Using Zoom in Blackboard

With Zoom's Blackboard integration, instructors can schedule, start and manage meetings directly from Blackboard. Students can join meetings and access cloud recordings from within the course as well.

Access Course Collaboration Tools

When faculty use ODU's Course Collaboration Tool to set up Zoom meetings, Microsoft Teams or shared Google Drives for their courses, students enrolled in those courses can access the collaboration tools from within the myODU portal or from within the course in Blackboard.

Access virtual workstations with the same configuration and standard software as the standard ITS computer labs at move.odu.edu.

Download Microsoft Office software, and get your school work done from anywhere.

Virtual Computer Portal

Description: VCPortal allows access to virtual Windows 10 lab machines over the network. These virtual machines can be accessed via web browser or by downloading and running an RDP file. Additional instructions on connecting to the virtual desktops can be found in the PDF attachment.

Multi-user Linux Servers

Description: Our department hosts two public Linux servers to assist students in completing their classwork, accessible over SSH.

Access to other resources over the VPN

Description: All other resources, such as remote connections to research workstations and servers, will require a connection to our VPN. Please note that the VPN is not required to connect to VCPortal or our public Linux servers.

Microsoft Teams

Description: Microsoft Teams is a communication platform that is available to all ODU students and faculty through the Office 365 Suite. Teams can be used both with the browser, desktop application and on mobile devices. Furthermore, you can contact root via instant message and voice chat.

For best results, use Firefox or Chrome (not IE or Edge) to download the VPN software for Windows.

Old Dominion University's Virtual Private Network (VPN) provides an encrypted tunnel between a PC or computing device and the VPN device here at the University. Do I need to load GlobalProtect on my ODU managed desktop? No - You only need a VPN to log in to certain ODU network services from outside the ODU network. Use GlobalProtect and the ODU VPN on ODU laptops or personal devices to log in from home, while traveling, on a wireless network (including MonarchODU) or off campus.
