How do I access the Columbia network from a remote location?

Remote access to network files and administrative applications on the Columbia network via VPN and Citrix. Also known as VPN , Citrix , RDP, or XenApp. CUIT provides two methods to connect to the Columbia network from a remote location: VPN and Citrix . Please note: The Citrix software is also used by other groups at Columbia such as SIPA.

No. The VPN service only provides access to on-campus resources. Off-campus Library resources can be requested via the Libraries website using your UNI and password.

Can I use VPN on campus?

You cannot use the VPN service if your computer is connected via a wired Ethernet connection on campus. However you can use VPN if you're connecting via WiFi, or if you're using off-campus broadband Internet.

Can I use Citrix to access my network files?

Yes, however CUIT strongly suggests that you use VPN to access your shared files. Citrix is not preferred because it is not designed or recommended for connecting to the University servers.

How to install Cisco AnyConnect on iPhone?

iOS: Visit the App Store, download and install the Cisco AnyConnect app. Enter vpn.cc.columbia.edu for the server name.

Faculty and staff can access Statistical, Financial, Human Resource, Course Management, Administrative, Enterprise Business Intelligence Solutions and Microsoft applications from off-campus.   Some applications are accessed via a web browser, some require a secure VPN connection to the Columbia network, and other require a secure Citrix connection to the Central Server.

Troubleshooting

Be sure you are using your Columbia UNI account and password to log in. This is the same account used for myColumbia, SSOL and CourseWorks. You must also have enrolled for CUIMC MFA to use the required Duo Passcode field in the VPN login window.
