Why remote learning at HLC?

As students and families are forced to self-isolate in these strange times, remote learning is a crucial element of our teaching at HLC. We want to ensure that we support all of our students to make the best possible progress in their learning, as well as provide them with the structure and direction that we all need in these challenging times.

How do students make progress in remote learning?

Research shows that students make most progress in remote learning when there is a mix of live lessons with their teacher and independent study sessions that they can complete at their own pace. Independent study lessons include narrated PowerPoints in which a specialist teacher talks through and explains the work.

Did you know your local library has thousands of ebooks and audiobooks? You can borrow them, instantly, for free, using just the device in your hand. Heres how: 1 Install the Libby app from the app store on your Android, iOS (Phone/iPad/iPod touch), or Windows 10 device. 2 In Libby, follow the prompts to find your library and sign in with a valid library card. Your PIN is the last 4 digits of your postcode. 3 Browse your library's collection and borrow a title. 4 Borrowed titles appear on your Shelf and download to the app automatically when you're on Wi-Fi so you can read them when you're offline.#N#From your Shelf, you can:#N#- Tap Open Book, Open AudioBook or Open Magazine to start reading or listening.#N#- Tap Manage Loan to see options like Renew and Return.#N#Happy Reading!

Do remote learners need internet?

To engage with our remote learning students need a fast and reliable internet connection. We understand that not all our families have home internet connections but do have mobile phones with data plans. The Department for Education is working with several UK mobile networks and have created a Get Help with Tech scheme to provide families with internet access specifically for remote learning during this current period.
