Users at CSCS generally have one single account, identified by a username, which can be used to access the different services at CSCS. With Citrix Remote Access you have browser-based access to a Virtual Desktop running Windows 7, Office 2013 and other business orientated applications. Your email account, desktop, documents, home and group drives are all loaded automatically, making this an exceptionally simple solution to working off-site.

How many GB is CSCS?

Every CSCS customer has a 50GB network “home” drive for secure storage of their files (also called the U: drive). On a Windows PC, your ‘Documents’ and ‘Desktop’ are automatically saved here. On a Mac or Linux PC it is available as a separate drive . You might also have a group drive. You can access these drives remotely with multiple methods – even if your PC is off.

This gives users the comfort of not having to sign in multiple times in each individual service connected to this gate and increases security. Furthermore, the Single Sign-On gate allow users to recover their forgotten passwords and authenticate using a third-party account. The login page looks like

What keys are accepted by CSCS?

CSCS suggests the use of ed25519 keys, avoid the use of DSA nor ECDSA keys. Legacy RSA keys are accepted and the use of a strong passphrase is highly recommended.

Where is the link to external accounts?

The linking of external accounts can be done in the Profile section (upper-right corner) under the Account and Resources Tool .

Can you adapt ssh configuration file to access directly the systems?

Note that you can adapt the ssh configuration file to access directly the systems: have a look at the corresponding FAQ for an example with Piz Daint.

Can CSCS sign into another service?

CSCS username/password on different web services. Sessions can be independent from each other so, signing into one service does not necessarily sign the user into another one

What is CSCS server?

A server which is supported by CSCS including Operating System and hardware (where appropriate) but not applications. This could be a virtual or physical server.

What building does CSCS support?

CSCS Supports seminar and teaching rooms in the Clinical School Building and the CAB Lecture Theatre only.

How many students can SDHS collaborate?

SDHS collaborator - for up to 4/study n/c. Charged at our hourly rate if there are more than 4.

Is there a SLA for SDHS?

Note: there is no SLA for the setup and maintenance of SDHS studies. These activities are done on a best endeavours basis and are subject to delays at busy times of the year.

Web access to your files

The simplest way to access your network files is via https://me-sftp.medschl.cam.ac.uk/login. Please note this is for Medschl users only.

Citrix

Citrix. Citrix is available on a subscription basis. Although simple to use, Citrix only supports 70 users at any time, meaning it is not suitable for a business continuity event. If you are already using Citrix, we recommend also preparing to use another method.

Globus Online Endpoint (recommented)

The recommended way to transfer data externally occurs via the CSCS globus-online endpoint (www.globus.org). Please follow the official get started documentation to login (in case you don't have an organisation account, you can just use the option "Sign in with Google"):

Globus-Url-Copy (deprecated)

The usage of the globus-url-copy client is still working, but it is now deprecated. Therefore, we suggest to use the recommended Globus Online endpoints whenever possible.
